OCD depends on performing certain rituals in an attempt to find some release, or security. The feeling is that if the ritual can be performed in a perfect way we will find a place of contentment and self acceptance.

The drive behind the necessity to perform these rituals is healthy it is only that the energy is invested into something that is usually distressing and unfruitful.

In recognising that the compulsion has integrity we can separate out the behaviour from what it is trying to achieve for us and divert the energy into rituals that do bear fruit; yoga, meditation and chanting.
